In the safety rankings of 60 cities around the world compiled by economists in the UK, Tokyo was ranked first and Osaka was ranked third.
In the ranking of the 2019 edition, the digital, sanitation, infrastructure, and security of 60 major cities visited by tourists were rated on a 100-point scale.
Tokyo, the leader, won 92 points, followed by Singapore with 91.5 points. Osaka in third place was 90.9 points. These three cities are also among the top three in the 2015 and 2017 rankings.
In addition to the low incidence of brutal and minor crimes, Tokyo received high acclaim for its disaster prevention infrastructure for natural disasters and the low virus infection rate of computers.
Tokyo ranked first in digital security, but Singapore scored higher in terms of infrastructure safety and security.
Amsterdam in the Netherlands, in 4th place , is facing the problem of “overtourism” that tourists rush to.
In Europe, Copenhagen, Denmark, was also ranked 8th with South Korea and Seoul.
Only the seventh capital city, Washington, entered the top ten in the US cities. Chicago is ranked 11th.
Hong Kong, where tourists have fallen dramatically due to the ongoing anti-government demonstrations, dropped from ninth place in 2017 to 20th place this year.
The lowest rank is Nigeria Lagos, with a safety rating of 38.1 points. The lower five cities also include Caracas (Venezuela), Yangon (Myanmar), Karachi (Pakistan), and Dhaka (Bangladesh).
